The Pioneer Journal has won numerous Minnesota Newspaper Awards for both editorial and advertising excellence.

The Pioneer Journal is published Thursday. The Intercom, a total market coverage shopper, is also published every Sunday. The PJ advertising and editorial staffs join together to produce monthly special sections with varying themes.

Wadena provides acres of beautifully groomed parks within the city. BN Park, downtown, is home to summer celebrations such as Rotary and Lions chicken and beef feeds, the farmers market and more. Sunnybrook Park has a buffalo and deer zoo, beautiful playground, stocked trout for kids
fishing and an adjacent paved bicycle trail. Black's Grove Park provides 8 miles of groomed cross country skiing in the winter time. Located just a few miles outside of the city, the park is a beautiful natural setting complete with walking bridges over a babbling stream. Several other playground parks
within the city limits provide outdoor fun for citizens of all ages.

Wadena has an 18 hole golf course, a paved bicycle trail, miles and miles of groomed snowmobile trails and the cross country skiing trail just west of town.
