The New York Mills Herald, located in East Otter Tail County, is a 2000-circulation weekly newspaper dedicated the 1,100 people who call the city home and the thousands more living in the countryside.

The newspaper, which has earned the Minnesota Newspaper Association's general excellence award in 1997 and 2000 has also been awarded the MNA Best Photography, Best Photo Stories, Best Advertisement, Typography and Design.

The Herald is published each Thursday and is associated with the Perham Enterprise and the 10,000-circulation Contact shopper, a Sunday piece. The shopper is also a housing piece of more than 15 specialty sections each year, focusing on the dairy industry, area festivals, school supplements and business pieces. The newspaper office, with a staff of five, is also a partner with the Perham newspaper in the annual 30,000 circulation Central Minnesota Vacation Guide and the 20,000-circulation Otter Tail County Resource Guide.

The Herald, along with the Perham Enterprise, became members of the Forum Communications Company family in 2000. The newspaper is the gateway to the lake country as westbound travelers trek U.S. 10. New York Mills is home to the Lund Boat Co., and is blanketed by lake visitors year around for fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and boating. The town is also home to Mid-State Auto Auction and the NY Mills Regional Cultural Center and its nationally known Great American Think-Off.
