The Farmington Independent and the Rosemount Town Pages make up the unique operation of one group of employees producing two separate newspapers - the Farmington Independent and the Rosemount Town Pages. News content in each is separate, although the two cities are located eight miles apart. This demonstrates the commitment to keep each product local. Several special products are also produced. Some examples are a Community Guide, Sports Preview and a graduation section. The Minnesota Newspaper Association recognized the Farmington Independent with first place for "use of Photography" and "Advertising Excellence" at the 2001 convention.

Farmington and Rosemount offer various recreational activities including public hunting land and good fishing. Each year, each city hold their respective summertime celebration. Held in July, Rosemount is the host to Leprechaun days and Farmington hosts the Dew Days in June.

At the 2001 Minnesota Newspaper Association convention, the Farmington Independent took first place for "Use of Photography" and "Advertising Excellence." The paper took second for "Sports Reporting" and "General Excellence." An individual award was also won by Chad Richardson for a "Photo Story." In April 2001, Independent editor Nathan Hansen won a national award for environmental reporting.

Special Products:
We produce a map of the city every other year. We publish a Community Guide on an annual basis. We publish a Fall Sports Preview, a graduation section and a section commemorating the annual community celebration, Dew Days, annually.

What makes our operation unique:
Our five employees are responsible for two separate newspapers -- the Farmington Independent and the Rosemount Town Pages. The news content in each is separate, although the two cities are located just eight miles apart. We think that shows our commitment to keep eaching product as local as possible.

Highlights of the community:
The highlight in each city has to do with each city's respective summertime celebration. Rosemount's is Leprechaun days, held in July, and Farmington's is Dew Days, held in June.

Recreational activities:
Rosemount has two Paintball fields, and wide-open spaces for a variety of recreational opportunities. Farmington boasts great public hunting land, and good fishing on the Vermillion River.

City population:
Rosemount has a population of 16,000. Farmington has a population of 14,000.

Major source of information:
We are the only two papers in the area that readers pay to receive. That residents are willing to pay for our products, when there are two other free products in the market, showing just how well we cover the news in each respective city.
