The Wadena Pioneer Journal was established in 1877 and has won numerous Minnesota Newspaper Awards for both editorial and advertising excellence. The Wadena Pioneer Journal is published Thursday. The Intercom, a total market coverage shopper, is also published every Saturday. The PJ advertising and editorial staffs join together to produce monthly special sections with varying themes.
Wadena provides acres of beautifully groomed parks within the city. BN Park, downtown, is home to summer celebrations such as Rotary and Lions chicken and beef feeds, the farmers market and more. Sunnybrook Park has a buffalo and deer zoo, beautiful playground, stocked trout for kids’ fishing and an adjacent paved bicycle trail. Black’s Grove Park provides 8 miles of groomed cross country skiing in the winter. Located just a few miles outside of the city, the park is a beautiful natural setting complete with walking bridges over a babbling stream. Several other playground parks within the city limits provide outdoor fun for citizens of all ages.
In addition to parks, Wadena has a beautiful Art Deco Downtown with great shopping and many historic storefronts. Wadena is uniquely situated in central Minnesota to be your gateway to north country recreation.
