The River Falls Journal is the only weekly paper in this rapidly growing community of about 15,000 situated on the Kinnickinnic River, a nationally-known class I trout stream. While about half the workers make the 35-mile commute via a four-lane road to Minneapolis-St. Paul for their jobs each day, the balance are employed locally at UW-River Falls and employers like River Falls Area Hospital, Designer Doors, Kolpak, BioDiagnostics, QMR Plastics, Hal’s Millwork, O’Keefe Cabinets, Foley United, Best Maid Cookies, Sajan, Inc., Royal Finishing and a variety of retail outlets.
Our weekly newspaper, the River Falls Journal, circulates about 4,000 copies each Thursday while a free-distribution shopper, the Western Wisconsin Buyer’s Guide, publishes 12,500 copies each Friday for distribution by mail and contract carrier to River Falls and neighboring communities of Ellsworth and Beldenville.
Our “Welcome Back” supplement is well-received by the nearly 6,200 students enrolled at UW-River Falls. The Journal has been recognized for editorial excellence many times by the Wisconsin Newspaper Association including winning the coveted general excellence distinction from some 50 newspapers in its circulation class.
A few years back, Demographics Daily named River Falls as one of “America’s Dream Towns”. River Falls’ median income and median home value are more than 15 percent above the national averages.
The Journal also maintains a popular local website, publishing breaking news, events and shopping information, classified advertising and lively exchanges between readers every day. More than 5,000 unique visitors visit the site each week.
