The Perham Focus, Otter Tail County’s oldest community weekly newspaper, was established in 1882. The newspaper, nestled in the heart of the county’s 1,100 lakes, is published on Thursdays, carrying a 3,200 circulation. The newspaper covers and caters to the thousands of tourists which visit the area each year to enjoy area lakes and specialty shops. The newspaper is also proud of its business coverage.
The Perham Focus newspaper office, employing a staff of 10, is also responsible for the 10,000-circulation Contact shopper, which features more than 15 specialty magazines each year, focusing on such topics as progress, bridal, agriculture, technology, the holidays and special citywide events. The Contact is carrier distributed on Sunday’s. The Perham Focus’ office is also responsible for publishing the county’s business directory and a 72-page vacation guide.
The Enterprise newspaper, which became a part of the Forum Communications Co. family in 2000 along with its sister newspaper in New York Mills, has received numerous newspaper association awards each year, including being named the state’s top newspaper of its size twice in the past 10 years.
The Perham Enterprise and New York Mills newspapers merged to form the Perham Focus in 2009. Perham, population 3000, is home to the Barrel O’ Fun snack food factory, Kenny’s Candy factory and Tuffy’s Pet Foods. The Perham area offers numerous recreational activities for all to enjoy over the year.
