Grand Forks Newspaper Editor to Lead Forum News Service

Wagner SteveGRAND FORKS, N.D.—Grand Forks Herald Editor Steve Wagner has been hired as the new Forum News Service director in Fargo.

Wagner, who has led the Herald’s news operation for almost 3½ years, will start in his new role Sept. 6. The search for his successor will start immediately, Herald Publisher Korrie Wenzel said.

Wagner said he was excited to join Forum News Service, which helps gather and distribute news for Forum Communications Co., the Fargo-based owner of the Herald and other news outlets throughout the region.

“For nearly 3½ years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as editor at the Herald and work with dozens of talented and dedicated journalists who want to do great work—both in print and online,” Wagner said in a statement, adding the paper has evolved in many ways during his tenure. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done together.”

Wagner has nearly five years of experience as a newspaper editor, first for the Bemidji Pioneer and then the Herald. He was previously news director at the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead newspaper, where he also spent time as a crime and investigative reporter.

A graduate of Moorhead High School and North Dakota State University, Wagner said he was sad to depart the Herald but is excited to return home.

“His experience at a variety of newspapers in our company, along with his solid background covering and managing the news, makes him ideally suited for this position,” said Mary Jo Hotzler, vice president of content for Forum Communications Co.
