11 Dec Forum Communications announces: Mohs named as publisher of the Brainerd Dispatch
BRAINERD, Minn. – Pete Mohs has been named the new publisher of the Brainerd Dispatch, Forum Communications Co. announced Friday.
Mohs, who also will remain as the publisher of the Dispatch’s weekly sister newspaper the Pineandlakes Echo Journal and Echoland Shopper, will begin his duties on Jan. 1.
Mohs replaces Tim Bogenschutz, who will remain with the company as general manager of Northland Outdoors.
“This is a great opportunity to serve as publisher of the Brainerd Dispatch, where my full-time newspaper career started in 1983, plus continue as the publisher of the Echo Journal,” Mohs said. “I’m excited to be working with the admirable management teams and staffs for both the Dispatch and Echo Journal. I also appreciate the great corporate support from Forum for all of our departments.”
Mohs worked part-time for the St. Cloud Times while earning a college degree at St. Cloud State University. He was hired as a regional reporter at the Dispatch in 1983, and later became an assistant sports editor. He switched to the Dispatch’s advertising department in 1995, and was promoted to assistant advertising director in 1999. Mohs became publisher of Echo Publishing in 2004.
“I have been fortunate to have a diverse career,” said Mohs, 55. “That helped me adjust to the many changes in our industry. I love the newspaper business. It’s what I’ve done since I started writing as a correspondent for the St. Cloud Times at age 16.”
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Pete since his first day at the Dispatch, 30-plus years ago,” said retired Dispatch Publisher Terry McCullough. “What a marvelous choice as publisher, both for the Dispatch and for the community.”
“I believe Pete will be a tremendous publisher for the Dispatch. He has already exhibited excellent qualities as publisher of the Echo/Journal,” Bogenschutz said. “If you add to that his time as president of the Minnesota Newspaper Association, it is easy to see what kind of leadership lies ahead for the Brainerd properties. Good Luck Pete!”
Mohs recently completed an eight-year term on the Minnesota Newspaper Association board of directors, including serving as board president in 2014.
“Pete cares about readers, advertisers and employees,” said Matt McMillan, Forum Communications Co.’s vice president of newspapers. “He is a smart, hard-working leader who collaborates with others to get results. FCC is striving to be one of the best places to work. Pete exemplifies our culture.”
Besides his newspaper career, Mohs coached youth and adult sports teams for more than 25 years in the Brainerd area. He also recently served as the Nisswa Chamber board president and Pequot Lakes Chamber advisory board chair. Mohs and his wife, Julie, have a son and daughter, who are also raising their families in the lakes area.
