BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji Pioneer participated in the 2014 Lake Bemidji Dragon Boat Festival on Aug. 1 and 2 at the waterfront in downtown Bemidji.
Thirteen employees, and six friends and family members, paddled in the boat in two races on Aug. 2.
The group decorated a tent in a Hawaiian theme in the team village and walked in the Parade of Teams on Aug. 1, the opening of the festival.
“The Pioneer finished 57 out of 59,” said organizer Jillian Gandsey, “but we all still had a really great time.”
In addition to Gandsey, the other Pioneer employees participating included Maggi Stivers, Joe Froemming, Zach Kayser, Chris Johnson, Bethany Wesley, Crystal Dey, Megan Serratore, Jack Hittinger, Tim Webb, John Svingen, Abby Randall, Malachi Petersen, Megan Cory, Andrea Johnson, Betsy Cory, Mitch Webb and Alex Gerchy. Grand Forks Herald Editor Steve Wagner, a former Pioneer editor, also participated.
The Pioneer is owned by Forum Communications Co., a multimedia information company based in Fargo, which owns dozens of newspapers, websites, television and radio stations and commercial printing plants in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
