FARGO, N.D. – When you think “meteorologist” … you likely think of a suit and suspenders and not necessarily the music of Metallica and Iron Maiden. In fact, you might not think of much besides their storm warnings and holiday forecasts.
“I think that ‘Meteorologists Rock’ shows that I am a human being; that I have other interests beyond weather; that I have a sense of humor not limited to jokes about weather,” said WDAY Chief Meteorologist John Wheeler, who stars in the 30-second video.
The video was produced to show the day-to-day side of news anchors and TV personalities, including meteorologists, away from work, says Jim Manney, who manages the FCC video department.
“You wouldn’t picture a buttoned-up meteorologist, who is smart and scholarly, to act this way,” Manney said, “but he is a also a father, husband, coworker and friend. We want to show the human element of these anchors.”
WDAY is owned by Forum Communications Co., a multimedia information company based in Fargo, N.D., which owns dozens of newspapers, websites, television and radio stations, and commercial printing plants in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
