FARGO, N.D. – The top-notch reporting and design work by the sports and news staffs at The Forum of Fargo-Moorheadrecently has been recognized twice by a popular newspaper design expert on his blog.
Highly acclaimed newspaper design expert Charles Apple most recently featured the Forum sports staff’s work to report and design the coverage of the North Dakota State University football team’s march to a third-consecutive national championship in a post Jan. 5.
Apple is a longtime news artist, graphics reporter, designer, editor and blogger, and he spent five years as an international consultant. He currently is the Focus page editor of the Orange County Register. His blog can be found at www.charlesapple.com.
On the football coverage, Apple took note of The Forum sports staff’s horizontal page design the day after the Bison won their third-consecutive championship and also featured a few other sports page fronts that came from highlights during the team’s historic season.
Apple wrote about the train derailment coverage on his blog on Dec. 31.
Forum satff reporters Erik Burgess and Kyle Potter and Photo Editor Mike Vosburg chased the developing story of the train derailment on Dec. 30, while the design team and Deputy Editor Kirsten Stromsodt planned the design of the coverage back at the office.
Stromsodt told Apple that although designer Alica Strnad designed the page, there were many other hands involved in the outcome.
The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is owned by Forum Communications Co., a multimedia information company based in Fargo, and owns dozens of newspapers, websites and television and radio stations, and commercial printing plants in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
