Employees of The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead are raising awareness about domestic violence by passing the purple purse for the YWCA of Cass Clay.
Forum Communications Company previously announced the production of a community video to promote the project, which provides the local YWCA $5 dollars every time someone logs online and passes a virtual purse using a specific code. The money is donated by the Allstate Foundation.
Last year, the YWCA of Cass-Clay received more passes than organizations in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Forum Communications also produced the video last year. This resulted in a donation of more than $31,000 to the organization.
On October 22nd, the YWCA dropped off the purple purse to The Forum. Employees were given slips of paper with instructions on how to access the purple purse websiteand how to enter the code for the purse on the site. Jolly Ranchers were taped to the slip to for good measure.
YWCA Executive Director Erin Prochnow says Forum Communications has been an integral part of the success of the Purple Purse project.
“It is because of wonderful partners like The Forum / She Says that we continue our important work of eliminating racism and empowering women and children,” she said.
Domestic violence affects 145 women an hour in the U.S., more than one-third of Americans have never even discussed the issue; three in five Americans believe that domestic violence is a difficult topic to discuss. The goal of this campaign is not only to raise funds for the YWCA Cass Clay and ensure women and children have a safe haven, but also to increase awareness about domestic violence in our society and start the conversation in our local community.
